So I wanted to share a few real life moments with you. What I thought was going to be an easy bathroom remodel, turned out to be a crazy affair. Here is our downstairs bathroom before the remodel. I warn you, it’s pretty ugly. What’s funny is that I’ve lived with it for 5 years. 5 years! Why? I’m not even sure. It’s one of those things that I knew needed to be done but just ignored it.
I mean, who still has toilet bowl covers!? Out of 4 bathrooms in my home, this is the only one I had a cover on! Also, check out the lovely brass fixtures. Do you ever look at something for so long that you stop seeing it?! That would be this bathroom. Now, granted, the Christmas crap stuff doesn’t help much. Don’t worry, that came down January 1st.
I have brass EVERYWHERE in my house. EVERYWHERE. EVERYWHERE. Do you understand? It’s EVERYWHERE. (Okay, I’m sure you get it!) It’s original to the date it was built, 1992. One thing you’ll notice in upscale custom homes is that they DO NOT have brass fixtures for the most part. The only exception is my friend Diane’s home which I shared here. She has a brass fixture in her downstairs bathroom and it’s beautiful. But it’s also upscale and high end. Big difference.
So I’ve already posted about the wallpaper removal here. I steamed that sucka down! I was also flooded with comments that I should have just used water and fabric softener. Ummm. I tried a couple of “cocktails” and even posted that. Oh well, guess people didn’t actually read the post.
Soooooooo, what was supposed to be a simple remodel, turned into needing a new toilet and faucet as they both started leaking (heavily) during this affair. Unfortunately something snapped off the underside of the faucet and couldn’t be fixed. I actually had planned a paint date for it! Darn it! And the toilet was probably better off with a date in the dump b/c of all it’s problems.
So a few hundred dollars later, everything is finally complete. And my husband thanked me for it because it was quite the mess. So stay tuned. Just had to share my messy life with you!
Blessings!

One Chatty Chic

Melody, don’t worry. Similar things happened when we did our bathroom makeover. Those sinks and faucets that I didn’t like, but Tom wanted to reuse, well let’s just say all of them had ‘accidents’ before reinstallation. Oddly enough, they all happened when I was in the room – go figure! Now we have large vanitys (instead of pedestal sinks) and brushed nickel fixtures (instead of the old raggedy brass fixtures). Now that is how you remodel!
Too funny CA! Well, I’m happy with the end result at least! No pain, no gain, right?
